When packing your beach bag make sure you pack these beach bag essentials!
Sunscreen – We recommend using SPF 30. The beaches of Destin have unique sand that is bright white and reflects the sun’s rays stronger than beaches with tan or brown sand.
Sunglasses and Hat – Just like your skin needs protection from the sun, so do your eyes. Make sure your sunglasses have UV protection and you won’t have to squint the entire time. A wide brimmed hat can also help protect your eyes.
Ice Water – The beach is the perfect place to cool off during the hot summer months! Temperatures typically reach as high as the 90s during the peak summer months of June, July, and August, so it’s important to stay hydrated. To keep your water cool, put it in a reusable, insulated bottle rather than a plastic bottle – you reduce the risk of leaving plastic litter on the beach and also have a cool drink no matter how many hours you stay at the beach.
Easy snacks – A jar of peanut butter and saltines is my favorite beach snack. Something a bit sweet and a bit salty will hit the spot while you’re at the beach. Bring some boiled peanuts, fresh fruit, or chips. Avoid bringing cooked foods or foods that will melt.
Toys – Stay entertained with beach toys such as Frisbees, soccer balls, or volley balls. There are dozens of beach supply shops around town that also sell buckets and shovels for building amazing sandcastles!
Towels – Bring one towel for each person in your group, and then two more just in case some of the others get soaked or too sandy.
Baby powder – This one is a local’s trick. You can use baby powder to get the sand off your feet more easily before getting in the car at the end of your beach trip.
Dry Pak Cell Phone Case – If you plan on bringing your phone to the beach, this is essential. The special phone case keeps your phone sand and water free while you’re at the beach and still allows you to take calls, snap photos, or text!
